Captain January

I never expected on Christmas morning to have found a collection of Shirley Temple DVDs. I was so touched. When my sister and I were little we were fortunate enough to be visit and be babysat often by each of our grandmas. A rarity in today's world where many families are separated by many miles.

One of the common treats of going to Grandma P.'s was being able to watch her Shirley Temple collection on VHS. It's a memory I look fondly back upon every once in a while. I hadn't mentioned those memories to anyone in quite sometime, so when my mom gave me a collection of Shirley Temple DVDs for Christmas this year I so surprised and so happy that I now I have a collection of my own, I was deeply moved that she remembered what those movies mean to me.

Tonight I watched the first DVD in Volume 1, Captain January. This is actually one I had never seen before. I love how the movie starts out right away with Shirley Temple's rising from her bed and her cute locks perfectly springy, not even a sign of bed head :) and she begins singing to welcome the new day. That scene is quickly followed by one of her signature tap dances. Unfortunately for me I can't say the movie ended as one of my favorites. I found myself getting up to finish laundry and check email a little over half way through. However, I'm still looking forward to rediscovering the ones I remember and discovering new ones to love. I'm curious to see if the rediscoveries will continue to hold that nostalgic feeling for me. Looking forward to finding out. :)
