YW Lesson 7: Homemaking

So when I became a teacher I quickly found out about this secret, highly selective organization that only teachers are allowed to be members of. It's called C.A.S.E. - COPY AND STEAL EVERYTHING!!!

I quickly found out my success as a teacher was going to depend upon my faithful membership in this organization. As you'll find out while reading this blog I don't have the talent, let alone the time, to think of great teaching ideas on my own, but I do have an eye for spotting them. So everything I put on this blog I'll always give full credit to the author I stole it from.

Today in Young Women's the lesson was on Homemaking. I found this activity on sugardoodle.net. It was created by Nancy Yang. The link is below. As I taught this lesson I focused on two ideas: homemaking and housekeeping. Homemaking is making sure the spiritual and emotional needs of your family are met. Housekeeping is ensuring your house is orderly and clean. You truly do need both to provide for a happy, healthy home where love is always felt.

Toward the conclusion of the lesson I had the girls fill out these booklets. They LOVED them! They got to dream up exactly what their home would be like someday. I was touched by their thoughtful, heartfelt responses. They wanted beautiful fresh flowers to adorn their homes and the smell of cookies to permeate their kitchens. They wanted to teach their families the value of hard work, kindness, and charity. We had great discussions about why we would want fresh flowers and why we want to hear the sounds of laughter, not grumbling, in our homes. I learn so much from these girls every Wednesday and Sunday. They inspire me to live better because I see them striving for something better all the time.
